Problem Statement

Regardless of problem (Harmful Algal Blooms or bacteria/chemical/nutrient exceedances) occurring, one must try to understand the conditions that are causing the problems or that amplify it. Many times these conditions can be attributed to weather related variables. Rainfall, Wind Direction and Speed, Tide Stages, Stream Height/Velocity, and Solar Irradiance. When studying a problem, it would benefit the program to have all of this information available. In addition to information access, a strategy for linking all of the information together spatially and temporally via a gridded system to easily be applied joined to sampling date/time/location results so statistical analysis can be performed would go a long way in helping determine the causes and effect that various weather conditions have on sample results obtained. Currently a very low priority. This is more of a wish list to have some of the various Rutgers University supported systems all talk to each other and integrate various weather-related variables (rainfall, tides, solar irradiance, wind velocity/direction, etc) to be used for robust statistical analysis. If we ever take this on, this would likely be handled via a DEP-070 Contract Agreement with Rutgers University.
