Pollution Prevention Dashboard

Description

The Bureau of Sustainability is working to ensure that the public has access to information on Toxics Release Inventory materials being used, processed, and released into the environment in the State of New Jersey. Our Bureau is creating datasets utilizing data submitted by facilities covered under the Pollution Prevention Act. Creation of this interactive tool would make this data accessible to the public in a meaningful way. The Bureau is developing a new web experience that will showcase facilities required to report on their manufacture, processing, or otherwise use of Toxics Release Inventory materials. Tis tool will show the quantity onsite, the amount used, and non-product outputs of these materials. Furthermore, data will be filterable to show which facilities have materials of special concern, and which facilities utilize pollution prevention techniques to reduce the quantity of toxic materials being used and released from their production processes. There will also be two StoryMap tabs: one that will be used as instructions on how to navigate the tool, and another that will provide background on the Pollution Prevention Program, data sources, and applicable acts and rules.

Problem Statement

Pollution Prevention data at the state level is currently not easily accessible to the public. Completion of this project would better serve residents of New Jersey.

Project Justification

No other alternatives have been proposed for sharing visualizations of Pollution Prevention datasets. This interactive web experience would provide the most effective delivery of this data to the public.
