Agricultural Burn Tracking

Description

Problem Statement

This initiative will ensure DEP remains in accordance with EPA reporting requirements under Open Burning laws.
This initiative will standardize this workflow for field, management, and administrative staff statewide. It will produce accurate and complete data, delivering broadscale situational awareness not possible with current systems.

Project Justification

FFS is responsible for enforcing NJ’s open burning laws (NJAC 7:27-2.1 ET SEQ) and issuing permits for Agricultural Burning. NJDEP is obligated to report Agricultural Burning data to EPA. EPA reporting requirements are changing for CY2024 and will soon include a spatial component which current systems cannot capture inherently. To meet new EPA reporting requirements, this project will deliver a spatial statewide authoritative dataset and web applications to allow FFS staff to collect and view information about Agricultural Burns. No PII will be collected.
