Fire Weather Tracker

Description

Problem Statement

ome records have been tracked in Excel, but it lacks a spatial component and it is difficult to navigate on a mobile device when being recorded by field staff. Currently, paper weather logs are used and kept onsite at each fire tower. Unless data is specifically requested and tower staff is present at the time, it is a time-consuming process to retrieve the records. Since spatial representation and integration with existing ArcGIS Online systems is needed, an AcGIS Online solution is recommended.

Project Justification

This project is intended to build tools needed to collect wildfire weather data and make it accessible in real time to operations staff. Forest Fire Service lookout towers manually record weather data and calculate indices twice per day when staffed. These values are used to determine wildfire danger. This data is extremely important for informing decision-making regarding wildfire suppression and pre-planning. This weather data is also needed for wildfire reports. Having this data available in ArcGIS Online would allow weather data to be integrated into the existing Incident Reporting infrastructure, streamlining incident reporting even further. No PII will be collected.
