Mobile Point of Sale Tablets

Description

The State Park Service (SPS) is looking to procure 4 android tablets and associated credit card readers to enable mobile sales for items like firewood, camping gear as well as interpretive programs / services like kayak rentals. SPS will trial this at the following 4 locations,

  • Stokes State Forest changed to High Point State Park

  • Belleplain State Forest

  • Spruce Run Recreation / Voorhees State Park

  • Leonardo State Marina changed to Twin Lights Historic Site

Project Justification

The State Park Service (SPS) is fully enabled to take credit cards in park offices however they have no ability to do it from a mobile situation like from a vehicle or at a lake side for kayak rentals. The public expects such conveniences. This will make it easier for Park staff to provide services and allow the public to have a better experience when visiting facilities.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] RE: Question for you (Mobile Point of Sale POS)

Good Morning Ben,

Thanks for getting this to us. I will draft up the MID and device requests for our corporate team today.

Please note that each MID needs to have a unique name, so for the different accounts I will likely be adding the word “Go” at the end of the MID to distinguish it from existing park MIDs for the park and if the park requires both a revolving and general MID that I will be adding a letter at the end to distinguish those accounts as well. The customer will see this on their statement and receipt, but we’ve used similar notation for the Clover Go MIDs before and have not had any confusion with customers since the Park name comes first in the description.

Received 4 tablets and cases from Deployment on 7/20/22. Perform updates on devices that were outstanding and start putting devices in cases.

Meet with NIC (Cheryl Bruder, Michael Flanagan, Michael LeBlanc) and Melissa Castellon of SPS fiscal to discuss purchase / setup of credit card readers to be paired with the tablets. Determine needs for establishing MIDs (Merchant IDs) and EFT codes and setup a spreadsheet for field staff to fill out to collect information (link below) Anticipate that once info is sent to NIC that readers can be sent to DEP to continue physical configuration with tablets prior to deployment to field. Note that cases were also ordered but as of this entry have not yet arrived.

Awaiting feedback from NIC on the exact Clover Go app that will be installed on tablets.

I signed off on the tablet and case purchase. PO#89982-1420 was generated was generated for the tablet only, and the devices were delivered on Monday July 11, 2022. Considering other competing tasks, it is anticipated that these devices will be ready for deployment on Thursday July 22, 2022.

Consultation with Ted Atogwe on best hardware options as well as with SPS staff / managers on how the equipment will be used has determined the type of hardware to purchase. Quotes have been received from vendor. Working on procurement forms.
