Disabled Veteran confirmation for free F&W licensing
Description
Find a solution to allow for simple confirmation of disabled veteran status as part of all modes of purchase of the subject free licensing. This likely involves use of an available Veterans Admin API.
Project Justification
Around 25-30 applications per month (perhaps 300 per year) require extensive paper documentation from the veteran in an added step from the actual purchase. There are an estimated 30,000 disabled veterans in NJ and 1.7 million in the US. Simplifying the process may lead to more vets willing and able to gain the benefit.

meeting on 10/17 with Barb, Kim, John Birkenstam, Jim B., Rich H., Jeff M. and Knute. There remains some confusion about the optimal solution path. Program asks for a simple DEP look-up, where customers are expected to give info verbally. Its not clear the VA intends the API to work this way or would welcome an open look-up interface available to agencies (presumably they could have published one easily if that were desired). Their API documentation implies integration with apps that put the vet in total control of their profile, access to info and/or personal info entry.
Barb indicates the program is currently seeking other enhancements to its New Jersey Electronic License System (NJELS) from vendor Aspira. The requests are described as being beyond the current contract agreement leading the program away for exploring expansion of the NJELS to use the VA API.
Kim will circle back with the program to catch up the other unmet needs.
Knute to set initial meeting with DOIT group and Program. Barb, John Birkenstamm and Kim.
