GIS High Availability Enterprise System
Description
No description
Problem Statement
There are more than 2,000 employees in the department, and there are currently 671 total named users in GeoHub. It is critical that the GIS system remain operational and that and downtime due to maintenance or system failures be kept at a minimum. NJEMS/PEGA has integrated GIS functionality as part of its business process, and it is critical that GIS component is highly available. Many other DEP Programs are developing business processes and workflows that rely on GIS functionality
Project Justification
The current GIS system architecture is not highly available and NJDEP critical operations could be at risk if there is a catastrophic failure. The scheduling maintenance of the system is problematic due to the lack of redundancy of servers. Esri was contracted to review our current GIS architecture and provided recommendations on how to make our system highly available. Two solutions were proposed, active-active or active-passive. We are currently working on the TIP.

Target Rollout Date Reason
The performance of software maintenance is extremely problematic and can create extended periods of downtime. This down time could lead to serious problems for DEP staff and stakeholders. The Department has many permit applications to process, and their review and evaluation requires GIS. DEP has statutory deadlines to meet when reviewing permit applications. It is imperative that we created a highly available system.
