The elevation data in six northeast counties (Bergen, Hudson, Essex, Union, Middlesex and Monmouth) is 9 years old. There has been a large amount of new development in the area, and several major storms that significantly impacted the coastal zone.

New elevation data is needed to update the DEM (digital elevation model) to ensure accurate flood response planning based on current topography.

The collection was completed in the spring of 2023, it is still being process and QA/QC's by the contractors. Once DEP receives the data will need more time to work with OIT/OGIS to publish it.
