BMWM LIMS Report Database

Description

Task #1
Although the LIMS efficiently handles numerous aspects of BMWM's data flow, there is a pressing need for enhanced capabilities in research, data analysis, statistical evaluations, and spatial analysis of the results housed within the LIMS. Currently, the data stored in Pega is not readily accessible by the program, necessitating improvements to improve access. It is essential to ensure that all data entering the LIMS is accessible for search, filtering, and export by the program, thereby optimizing its usability and effectiveness.

Task #2
As a second component, the program has multiple legacy MS Access databases dating from 1980 through 2024. This data must be formatted and placed into a compatible format that will match the BMWM LIMS format listed above. The goal is to have a single data bucket to query against from 1980 - Present for all of the bureaus records.

Project Justification

Data plays a crucial role in determining the opening and closing of waters for shellfish harvesting, as mandated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Furthermore, it is instrumental in deciding the accessibility of beaches and recreational waters when certain analyte levels exceed established thresholds. These decisions can profoundly affect New Jersey's recreational economy.

This project is currently on hold. The initial plan was for Carrollton to develop a relational reporting database to make Pega data objects more accessible and integrate the bureau's historical data into a central repository for analysis. Currently, DOIT has created a VIEW from the Pega data tables, which serves as a temporary solution but doesn't address the integration of historical data with the new Pega/SQL Server LIMS format. A similar project is underway for freshwater monitoring, where a reporting database is expected to be built. We will assess the outcome for BFBM and, if beneficial, request a reporting database for Marine Water. Funding is available; the decision hinges on whether the effort is worthwhile and offers improved returns.
