Survey123 Non-point Source Tracking
Description
Survey123 online data submission form and ArcGIS Hub/AGO data sharing capabilities.
1)Create an online data submission form using Survey123.
2)The form shall record field sampling information, GPS coordinates, and store pictures for specific locations.
3)Application will have the ability to upload documents such as PDF’s and shape files.
4)This tool will have the capability to export the data collected to be consumed into BMWM’s database structure.
5)It will be important to spatially manage the sampling sites such as creating new sample locations while out in the field or making edits to existing sample locations.
6)Field work is sometimes performed in remote locations with weak/no cellular signal. This tool shall have the capability to collect data offline and sync back up once communication is restored.
7)Data flow that this tool utilizes shall be able to easily organize and distinguish between numerous storm studies. There will be multiple storm study networks that are continually changing.
Problem Statement
Non-point Source (NPS) tracking identifies nonpoint pollution sources responsible for water quality impairments and provides follow-up monitoring to assess the effectiveness of corrective actions. The Bureau of Marine Water Monitoring (BMWM) identifies areas affected by nonpoint pollution sources using data generated by the National Shellfish Sanitation Program (NSSP) monitoring network. Once an impaired area is identified, a targeted study will be conducted to identify the pollutions source(s) responsible for water quality impairment. BMWM will work with county and municipal partners to correct the problems. Follow-up monitoring is performed to confirm that the source was mitigated. The bureau is looking to automate field data entry techniques using ESRI's Survey 123 and eliminate paper forms.
Project Justification
The need for this is driven by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It requires shellfish producing states to comply with the guidelines and regulations set by the National Shellfish Sanitation Program (NSSP), Guide for the Control of Molluscan Shellfish. The guidelines consist of a Model Ordinance, summarizing the minimum requirements necessary for States to regulate the interstate commerce of molluscan shellfish (oyster, clams, mussels, and scallops) and establish programs to protect the public health by assuring the sale or distribution of shellfish from a safe source and assuring shellfish have not been contaminated during cultivating, harvesting, processing, shipping, or handling.
